Cosmetics are used to modify our human nature. We apply powder, nail polish or lipstick to optimize our human shell. In this sense, cosmetics act like a visual catalyst: they imitate, emphasize and transform nature — without ever being nature themselves. But what happens when we stylize this tool of transformation into nature itself?
We look at cosmetics through a macro lens. Powdery granules line up to form an abstract sandy desert. Viscous nail polish runs through the image like molten lava. With the close observation of an abstract only seemingly observed from a distance, pixels densify into an inkling.
Shapes, shades, and light condense a distillate of concrete ideas. Our visual habits gain a new, a haptic quality. The eye glides over grainy, creamy lipstick landscapes or gets caught in a lake of diffusely merging makeup. Mimicry landscapes that could not be further from nature - and yet seem to be perfectly natural.
